How Dental Technology Makes Our Dentistry Better

Intraoral Cameras

Before beginning any kind of treatment, you will probably want to see the problem for yourself. But how can you look at something that is inside your own mouth? Intraoral cameras have become an invaluable tool at many a dental practice because they can give patients a clear visual of exactly what their dentists are talking about. Dr. Fisher can use these small, wand-like devices to take high quality digital images of your teeth and gums to give you a chance to check the area yourself. These images can also be magnified to make small fractures and other issues easier to spot.

Air Abrasion

Many patients find themselves feeling a little nervous before visiting the dentist, and the high-pitched whine of the dental drill is one of the main contributing factors associated with these fears. In our dental office, we use air abrasion to minimize the need for drilling, improving patient comfort.

Snoreguards

For those who have prescriptions from a sleep medicine professional, we’re happy to offer customized snoreguards. These oral appliances keep the airway clear as you sleep through the night, reducing snoring and allowing you to sleep and breathe more deeply.

Digital X-Rays

Using a digital X-ray machine allows us to produce images of your jawbone and other unseen oral structures much faster than we could with a device that uses traditional film, thus shortening your overall appointment time. This method also produces far less radiation and doesn’t involve chemicals that could ultimately damage the environment. The digital X-rays taken at our practice allow us to enhance the images, ensuring that they are as high-quality as possible.

Instead of only taking a picture of one side of the mouth at a time, a digital panoramic X-ray can capture all of your various oral structures in a single image. Covering such a wide area at once gives us a chance to evaluate the health of the jawbone, the positions of your teeth, and other factors that could play an important role in treatments such as tooth extraction or implant placement. They also help us check for signs of periodontal disease, oral cancer, or painful cysts in the jawbone.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide does not knock you out; instead, it simply makes you feel drowsy and relaxed. This can help anxious or restless patients stay at ease during their routine visits. Feel free to ask about receiving nitrous oxide during your regular appointments; the sedative takes effect quickly once you start to breathe it in, and the effects will dissipate soon after the mask has been removed so that you can easily drive yourself home afterwards.

Occlusal Splints

There’s no need to seek surgery for jaw pain or teeth grinding. Instead, we can create an oral appliance called an occlusal splint to help you find relief from these symptoms. The splint will protect your upper and lower teeth from each other; it will also help support the joints used to move the lower jaw, protecting them from the stresses of chewing and keeping it safe from harmful habits.
